TD Friends of the Environment Foundation Supports our Outdoor Classroom
A generous donation of over $4000 from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation has set the stage for the groundbreaking first steps of our outdoor classroom. Our school greening project will result in an outdoor, multipurpose social space between the Hazel Street entrance and library. Funding from TD will help support the installation of most of the armour rock, plant materials including two red maples and a honey locust tree, native species of ground cover and flowers as well as mulch. Pathways and an additional rock/butterfly garden are in plans for Stage 2 of this school greening project.

Outdoor Classroom Funding Grows
The Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation has made a generous donation of $2000 toward the greening of our outdoor classroom. This means additional trees that will provide welcome shade on the school grounds and help reduce our carbon footprint. As of October, the classroom rock seats and mulch are in place. Several native species of trees and ground cover will be added both in the late fall and early spring. Thank you to our donors for their support for our project.

WCI presents at ESRI Toronto Regional Users Conference
Joel Cheriyan and Martin Marchiori-Wong presented in front of a group of approximately 650 GIS professionals at the ESRI Regional Users Conference on October 6th in Toronto. They provided attendees with a description of their gold medal winning project at the Skills Canada Ontario GIS competition last spring, while they were still in grade 10. The problem to be solved at the competition was finding the best location for a wind turbine farm within Southern Ontario given a number of constraints, including adequate elevation, drainage, proximity to population centres, highways, and other wind farms.
