Dramatic Arts is part of the English Department. The head of English is Mrs. Cunningham. The assistant head of English is Mr. Rouse.
This year, Mr. Fare and Mrs. Crowell teach grade 9 drama, Mr. Leeming teaches grade 10 drama, and Mrs. Crowell teaches grades 11 and 12 drama.
Drama students play an active role outside the classroom as part the Remembrance Assemblies, our annual variety show Concept, and as part of the Multicultural Show and the Sears Drama Festival. As well, our Grade 11 and 12 students are regular performers in the Viking Integration Program assemblies.
Students at WCI are able to take dramatic arts courses at all four grade levels. Students can begin their drama studies in either grade 9 or grade 10, and could choose to take
drama in both of these years. Grade 9 and 10 drama are both introductory courses, but their content is different. After students have one or two introductory drama course, they may continue with drama in Grade 11 or Grade 12.
Drama is a collaborative art form. The problem solving, constructing, negotiating, communicating, presenting and reflecting are collaborative activities in the drama class. By working in both real and imagined worlds students will become better listeners, talkers, questioners and creators.
